Day 17 St Bees to Ennerdale Bridge

Good night’s sleep, good bed.
Looks overcast out the window but that’s the UK.
Breakfast is the usual, no full English, just cereal and toast. Pack up pay and we are off.
There’s a new start sign to the Coast to Coast which I don’t recall from the previous strip.
The start

Quite a few walkers out there and we are faster than all of them.
Along the cliffs with Jo pontificates public liability if someone falls over!
Past the lighthouse, we turn inland and head for Sandwith, then across fields, under the railway line, that bought us here yesterday, and n to Moor Row, an undistinguished town, back out onto the fields and into Cleator where we get a cup of coffee and some fruit and enjoy our lunch on the banks of the River Ehen.
Dent in the distance

Then starts the climb towards Dent, a 344m hill, through the yards of Black How Farm and into the forest that skirts the hill.
A steep pinch to the top, with great views, albeit obscured by haze, over the biggest stile and down a very steep, and I mean very steep track to Nannygate Beck.
This took up past Low Cock How Farm, where we stayed previously, and into Ennerdale Bridge.
The Fox and Hounds are at the start of the village, it has been hot and we’ve done over 24 km, so a beer (or two) are in order to rehydrate.
Our accommodation is a very spacious room with a double bed, which looks over a small square.

Dinner is the usual pub fare, however they do put on a huge salad with our choices which is a pleasant surprise. Salads have not been a big thing here so far.
